Our Purpose
The Fund for Portland Public Schools is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that unites business, philanthropy and community to build lasting partnerships that expand opportunity for students. We are building a movement in support of the PPS
Mission: We provide rigorous, high quality academic learning experiences that are inclusive and joyful. We disrupt racial inequities to create vibrant environments for every student to demonstrate excellence.
Our Priorities
The Fund believes that a truly excellent school system is made up of schools and programs that nurture the “whole child” and are committed to each individual’s health, joy, self-expression, curiosity and academic and intellectual growth. We’re working to create the conditions in which students are prepared and energized to fully partake in the educational and social environment during their PK-12 school journey. This requires collaboration and investment from our community. We are working with sponsors, donors, philanthropists and volunteers to design and implement appropriate ways for them to share resources and opportunities with students.
Current priorities include:
advancing Literacy
Arts Education & Enrichment
assistance for pps families
Our Impact
The Fund fuels innovation by connecting private resources to public education to accelerate excellent teaching and learning. We also are nimble and responsive, advancing pilot projects or stepping in to support emerging needs. Here are a few of the ways we’ve had an impact since our founding in 2019.
Advocacy
The Fund for PPS knows that students, families and community members care deeply about public education. We also believe that it is important for all of us to bring our personal stories and our experiences to the crucial conversation around the state of public education in our city and in Oregon. With the state legislature in session, now is the time to lift our voices and speak our truth to our elected officials. Here are some resources to get started!
Champion PPS Schools
We’re launching the new districtwide fundraising model for staffing in the 2024-25 school year and branding it Champion PPS Schools. This is the one way for donors to contribute to additional PPS staff positions (also commonly referred to as FTE/Full-Time Equivalent). Dollars raised for Champion PPS Schools will be allocated districtwide through a formula developed by the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC): Distribution of Donations for Staffing and approved by the PPS Board of Education.
